The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. The AS Office of Food and Housing Resources strives to build awareness and education about food and housing resources available for students, along with the following priorities:

Effectively work throughout the year to fight food and housing insecurity at UC San Diego

Working with cross-campus resources to promote awareness of resources students have access to on campus 

Address accessibility concerns regarding basic needs resources, with an emphasis on food and housing insecurity, raised by students

The Director of Housing Security's responsibilities:

  • Expand access to housing support: Design and implement projects that make housing resources easier to find, understand, and access for UC San Diego undergraduate students.

  • Identify student needs: Assess where housing insecurity is most prevalent across the UC San Diego community to identify gaps in existing resources and develop targeted solutions.

  • Build campus-wide solutions: Collaborate with Student Legal Services, Housing, Dining & Hospitality (HDH), the Homelessness Hub, and other campus partners to develop resources, workshops, events, and initiatives that directly address housing insecurity.

  • Event planning: Develop engaging campaigns and events that help students understand their housing rights and options on campus and off campus.

  • Develop professional and leadership skills: Attend weekly staff meetings and one-on-ones with the VP.

  • Housing advocacy: Research effective housing policies in San Diego and mobilize students to participate in civic advocacy, including contacting policymakers and providing public comment at City Council meetings.
