Working Job Title: Deputy State Legislative Director 

Pay rate: $55/week

Job Description: 

  • Assist the Executive Director of the Triton Lobby Corps and co-oversee the staff and operations of the Triton Lobby Corp

  • Develop programming through the Office of External Affairs and Triton Lobby Corp to educate the student population on Legislative Advocacy and priorities

  • Sit in the Government Relations Committee in UCSA and ensure UC San Diego's interests are represented as prescribed by the Executive Vice President for External Affairs.

  • Co-lead the office's legislative efforts such as: Organizing lobby visits, analyzing policy, recommending policy stances, and educating students on UCSA legislative priorities

  • Host programming that outreaches the student population and teaches them about advocacy and lobbying

  • Develop programming that develops the professional and social development of the members of Triton Lobby Corp

  • Carry out the campaigns voted upon at the UC Student Association through the work conducted

  • Aid policy analysts in their policy analyses into state bills and aid liaisons in drafting statements of support and opposition and establishing connections to a variety of student organizations on campus

  • Maintain relationships with the Government and Community Relations team at the UC San Diego Office of the Chancellor

  • Develop and publicize the activities of Lobby Corps members and upcoming events on behalf of the Lobby Corps

  • Develop programming to have the student body engaged in state advocacy through workshops, phone banking, canvassing, and any other ideas that keep students engaged with legislative advocacy 

  • Shall take on additional responsibilities as requested by the Executive Vice President for External Affairs 

Job Location: In-Person (UCSD Main Campus)

Qualifications: 

  • You must plan to be a full-time registered student at UC San Diego for the 2026 - 2027 academic year and be available on campus.

  • Experience planning large people trips and understanding of University travel policy. 

  • The ability to lead and supervise a group of staff members

  • Problem-solving and conflict-management skills

Hours per week: 15-20
Special Conditions of Employment:

  • You must plan to be a full-time registered student at UC San Diego for the 2026 - 2027 academic year and be available on campus.

  • The Deputy State Legislative Director should have exceptional leadership skills, be comfortable in lobby meetings, and have a solid understanding of state legislative processes.
