ABOUT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS

The Associated Students of the University of California San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego undergraduate student body. ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. ABOUT THE OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AFFAIRS

The Office of Environmental Justice Affairs works to highlight the intersections of environmental and social justice, to ensure assembly and university decisions reflect principles of sustainability, and to advocate for marginalized communities. We are a small, dynamic team with a broad mandate: building platforms for environmental advocacy, aggregating data and resources to promote equity, and strengthening partnerships across campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Time Commitment: 7-10 hours per week, 30 weeks

Pay: $40/week

Duties of the GIS/Web Development Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain ASEJA’s web presence to showcase ongoing research, data visualizations, and advocacy projects in an accessible, visually engaging format.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a spatial mapping platform highlighting campus and community environmental justice data.
  • Create data-driven narratives using web technologies (e.g., Leaflet, D3.js, etc.) that connect quantitative findings to environmental justice storytelling
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Research and Data Analysis to integrate GIS output into interactive, web-based dashboards.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Proficiency in front-end web development and familiarity with frameworks such as React or Vue
  • GIS and web mapping libraries (e.g., Leaflet, webGL, etc.)
  • Understanding of data visualization principles and user-centered design
  • (STRONG PLUS) Familiarity with environmental justice or urban planning concepts
