About the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs
The Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs is the center of academic advocacy within the Associated Students of UC San Diego. Led by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the office works to ensure student voices are represented in decisions around curriculum, advising, faculty relations, and academic policy.
Staff members support this mission by serving as liaisons between students, faculty, and administrators, addressing academic concerns, and promoting resources that enhance student learning. The office’s directors and coordinators manage internal operations, build external partnerships, and advance projects that improve the academic experience for all undergraduates.
By working in the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, students gain hands-on experience in academic advocacy, project management, and outreach while developing professional skills in communication, leadership, and collaboration. Together, the team fosters a supportive and effective academic environment that empowers students and strengthens their success at UC San Diego.
Director of Academic Divisions
Directors of Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science, Physical Sciences, Public Health, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, and Social Sciences
Compensation: $60/week for 25 weeks
Hours: Approximately 10-15 hours per week
Position Description
Each Director of an Academic Division serves as the primary liaison between students in their respective division and the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Directors are responsible for identifying academic concerns within their division, fostering communication between students and faculty, and working collaboratively to advance academic equity and support.
Directors work closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Associate Vice President of Internal Affairs, Multimedia Coordinator, Director of External Affairs, and other divisional Directors to represent student interests and promote positive academic change across campus
Responsabilities

Serve as the main point of contact for academic concerns and feedback within your assigned division

Build relationships with department faculty, advisors, and administration to support student academic success

Organize outreach efforts to collect input from students within the division (e.g., surveys, forums, town halls)

Advocate for academic improvements based on student feedback, such as course availability, advising, or resources

Collaborate with other Directors and the VP Academic Affairs on cross-divisional initiatives and campaigns

Provide regular updates on division-specific issues, policies, and opportunities

Promote academic resources and events relevant to your division

Support office-wide initiatives and participate in team meetings and collaborative planning
