Job Description: 

  1. Draft legislative reports to make policy more accessible for students to understand bills circulating in the federal legislature (House of Representatives and Senate) and how these bills will affect the student’s quality of life. 
  2. Track the progress of the bill as it makes its way through the legislature (from being introduced to the floor to being signed by the President). 
  3. Research what issue areas impact the student population and surrounding communities. 
  4. Gather information to draft statements of support or opposition on state bills that are within the Lobby Corps (TLC) portfolio. These statements will be provided to legislative committees and members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to publicize our position on the bills. 
  5. Represent Triton Lobby Corps by doing outreach with organizations and communities across campus through several manners. Communicate with student organization leaders and provide them with sufficient information of the bills that the Lobby Corps will advocate on their behalf. Regularly check-in with orgs to keep-up communication regarding key issues and goals. Collect data and information regarding org’s legislative needs. 
  6. Attend weekly GBMs or Policy Boards and actively participate whether that be presenting bills researched or organizational updates. 
  7. Participate in lobby meetings with federal legislators to advocate for legislation that is within TLC’s portfolio. 

Communicate with student organization leaders and provide them with sufficient information to inform them of the bills the Lobby Corps is asking their support for. Training will be provided on how to conduct a policy analysis on a particular bill by identifying the intended goal, content, stakeholders, sponsor(s), and the bill’s potential impact on UC San Diego students. Training will also cover drafting statements of support or opposition on behalf of the Lobby Corps and contacting members of the faculty and leaders of student organizations to garner their support. Identify bills in both houses of Congress that align with the campaign goals of the UC Student Association. You may write statements of support or opposition on behalf of faculty and student organizations, ensuring alignment with the Lobby Corps’ stated position on the bills.

Hours per week: 10-15 hours per week

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • You must plan to be a full-time registered student at UC San Diego for the 2025 - 2026 academic year and be available on campus.
