About the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs
The Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs is the center of academic advocacy within the Associated Students of UC San Diego. Led by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the office works to ensure student voices are represented in decisions around curriculum, advising, faculty relations, and academic policy.
Staff members support this mission by serving as liaisons between students, faculty, and administrators, addressing academic concerns, and promoting resources that enhance student learning. The office’s directors and coordinators manage internal operations, build external partnerships, and advance projects that improve the academic experience for all undergraduates.
By working in the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, students gain hands-on experience in academic advocacy, project management, and outreach while developing professional skills in communication, leadership, and collaboration. Together, the team fosters a supportive and effective academic environment that empowers students and strengthens their success at UC San Diego.
Director of External Affairs
Compensation: $70/week for 25 weeks
Hours: Approximately 10-15 hours per week
Description of the Position:
The primary role of the Director of External Affairs for the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs is to manage the office’s connections beyond its internal team. This includes building relationships with faculty, academic departments, campus partners, and student organizations to ensure student academic concerns are effectively communicated and addressed. The director works alongside the VP of Academic Affairs, Internal Affairs, Multimedia Coordinator, and Directors of Academic Divisions to represent the office in collaborative spaces and strengthen its advocacy reach.

Serving as a liaison between the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and external stakeholders (faculty, administration, student orgs, and campus partners)

Supporting the VP Academic Affairs in advancing academic advocacy initiatives at the institutional level

Providing updates to the office on external policies, opportunities, and initiatives that affect academics

Coordinating outreach efforts that promote academic resources, initiatives, or events

Assisting with office-wide campaigns, forums, or town halls related to academic issues

Strengthening collaboration across offices in AS to advance shared advocacy goals
-
Ensuring consistent, professional communication between the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and its external partners
