ABOUT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS

The Associated Students of the University of California San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego undergraduate student body. ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. ABOUT THE OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AFFAIRS

The Office of Environmental Justice Affairs works to highlight the intersections of environmental and social justice, to ensure assembly and university decisions reflect principles of sustainability, and to advocate for marginalized communities. We are a small, dynamic team with a broad mandate: building platforms for environmental advocacy, aggregating data and resources to promote equity, and strengthening partnerships across campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, 33 weeks

Pay: $60/week

Duties of the Director of Campus Sustainability include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement campus-wide sustainability initiatives (e.g., waste reduction, transit alternatives, food security measures, etc.) in accordance with UCSD’s Climate Action Plan and A.S. priorities.
  • Coordinate partnerships with campus departments, student organizations, other A.S. offices, and administrative units to align efforts and avoid duplication of labor and resources
  • Advocate for and track progress on UCSD sustainability commitments
  • Organize campaigns, workshops, and events to engage the undergraduate body in sustainable practices and build student ownership of campus initiatives.
  • Monitor and assess the environmental footprint of A.S. operations, recommending policies to reduce waste, improve procurement, and lower emissions (once yearly)
  • Represent the Office of Environmental Justice Affairs at campus sustainability committees
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Research and Data Analysis to translate quantitative findings into actionable recommendations for advocacy.
