ABOUT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS

The Associated Students of the University of California San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego undergraduate student body. ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. ABOUT THE OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AFFAIRS

The Office of Environmental Justice Affairs works to highlight the intersections of environmental and social justice, to ensure assembly and university decisions reflect principles of sustainability, and to advocate for marginalized communities. We are a small, dynamic team with a broad mandate: building platforms for environmental advocacy, aggregating data and resources to promote equity, and strengthening partnerships across campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, 37 weeks

Pay: $80/week

Laundry Loads of Love (LLoL) is an initiative started by current A.S. President William Simpson and Senator Moazzma Chaudhary to collect gently-loved, unwanted clothes from laundry rooms around campus to be washed and distributed to local NGOs.

Duties of the Laundry Loads of Love (LLoL) Chair of the Office of Environmental Justice Affairs include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating the distribution of physical LLoL bins around laundry facilities around campus and developing college partnerships to promote the program
  • Coordinating advertising to promote the initiative amongst the student body
  • Identifying and building a standing partnership with a local NGO that has sufficient capacity and need for consistent donations of clothing
  • Coordination with the technical members of this office to develop an networked tracking system for clothes deposits in bins around campus
  • Performing the physical labor needed to transport bin contents to the relevant dropoff locations

Candidates should be comfortable with a fast paced environment, have excellent time management skills, and be able to coordinate effectively with other members of the office and broader campus community.
