ABOUT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS

The Associated Students of the University of California San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego undergraduate student body. ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. ABOUT THE OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AFFAIRS

The Office of Environmental Justice Affairs works to highlight the intersections of environmental and social justice, to ensure assembly and university decisions reflect principles of sustainability, and to advocate for marginalized communities. We are a small, dynamic team with a broad mandate: building platforms for environmental advocacy, aggregating data and resources to promote equity, and strengthening partnerships across campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week, 35 weeks

Pay: $80/week

Duties of the Chief of Staff of the Office of Environmental Justice Affairs include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and chairing weekly staff meetings, as well as larger gatherings with committees
  • and partner organizations.
  • Overseeing office operations, including records management (minutes, rosters, finances) and maintenance of the Environmental Justice Affairs archives.
  • Supervising office initiatives and supporting staff, with particular attention to scheduling and planning ventures given labor, financial, administrative, and chronological constraints
  • Managing the office budget and ensuring compliance with AS financial policies.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for campus partners and addressing concerns as they arise.
  • Attending Office of the President meetings as requested by the AVP of Environmental Justice Affairs or the Student Body President and representing the AVP of Environmental Justice Affairs at other meetings in his absence.

Candidates should be comfortable with a fast paced environment, be familiar with (or willing to learn about) quantitative (data-driven) and qualitative approaches to environmental advocacy, and have excellent managerial skills to keep track of multiple simultaneous projects.
