Office of Communications Overview

The Office of Communications’s purpose is to create a more well-known and accessible student government by practicing active communication with the UC San Diego student body, fostering connections within the community, and increasing student engagement and participation in the advocacy efforts of the Associated Students. The office has four departments: Marketing Communications, Data Analytics, Internal Association Communications, and Strategic Communications. Each of these departments is supervised by a senior officer who oversees its staff members’ daily and weekly operations, while also working as a team within their departments and with the others, to develop content and strategies to fulfill the purpose of the office through innovative and creative practices. Additionally, everyone is trained and provided with resources to increase their professional growth, along with their personnel growth through interacting with everyone in the office and the greater A.S community.

Position Description

As the Data Analytics Officer, it will be your duty to help organize and curate raw data from surveys or research in a comprehensible form so the rest of the office can access information readily and easily. Under the Data Analytics Department, or DA for short, you will work in a team that will create surveys, collect historical data, and archive information. Data Analytics is the informational branch of the Office of Communications and will oversee the data-gathering initiatives, primarily in the form of surveys, to provide accurate and timely facts and information on key issues facing the student body in order to better equip A.S.’s services and advocacy efforts. Furthermore, you will liaise work with your team to assist Senators with their projects that require survey data collection, along with any other A.S. office. Lastly, you shall work to transparently disperse information and data collected, under the oversight and direction of the Chief Communications Officer.

Key Information

Pay rate: $60 per week

Job Location: In-Person (UCSD Main Campus) and Off-Site work

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with other departments to partner on projects related to data processing.

  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Department or Marcom to promote A.S. surveys on across campus and on social media.

  • Work with the Senate Communications Officer to assist Senators with any data collection efforts.

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop data-driven solutions and strategies.

  • Document and present findings in a clear and concise manner.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time registered UC San Diego Undergraduate Student and available to work on campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated and take the initiative to complete tasks with minimal direction.

  • Well-organized, resourceful, and able to multi-task in high-pressure situations.

  • Have relevant experience in teamwork.

  • Possess strong leadership qualities and listening skills to work in a diverse team.

  • Passionate about data, possesses strong analytical skills, and is eager to learn in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Basic understanding of data analysis concepts and techniques.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, Qualtrics) is a plus.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
