The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services, and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service to build and strengthen our community. 

The purpose of the ASUCSD External Affairs office shall be to educate and mobilize the UCSD student body around issues affecting University communities at the city, state, and national level. The ASUCSD External Affairs Office shall also advocate for issues regarding higher education including but not limited to the UC system and its governing bodies and lobby system-wide University officials and local legislators on the UCSD student body’s behalf. In addition, the ASUCSD External Affairs office shall facilitate community relations and educational outreach on behalf of ASUCSD.

Working Job Title: Internal Organizing Director

Pay rate: $75/week

Job Description: 

  • Serve as a co-board member of the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and sit on the Campus Action Committee (*This will require traveling at least once a month, usually Friday through Sunday)

  • Oversee grassroots organizing efforts within on-campus organizations.

  • Expand the Office of the Vice President of External Affairs through on-campus outreach to cultivate a diversified group of student leaders.

  • Coordinate organizing efforts for disabled students, labor affairs, housing affairs, and civic engagement.

  • Shall work with campus organizations to develop coalition building and solidarity efforts with campus organizations

  • Fulfill some additional UCSA campaign work may include, but is not limited to attending weekly Campus Action Committee meetings on Zoom, office staff meetings, rally planning, organizing travel arrangements, writing Op-eds, tabling, facilitating meetings, organizing teach-ins/webinars/phone-banking events, stepping in for campaign coordinators, meeting with different on-campus and off-campus organizations, and other organizing work

  • Shall take on additional responsibilities as requested by the Vice President of External Affairs

Job Location:  In-Person (UCSD Main Campus)
 

Qualifications: 

  • You must plan to be a full-time registered student at UC San Diego for the 2024 - 2025 academic year and be available on campus.

  • Experience planning large people trips and understanding of University travel policy. 

  • The ability to lead and supervise a group of staff members

  • Problem-solving and conflict-management skills

Hours per week: 15-20
