The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego (ASUCSD) are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. Office of Communications Overview

The Office of Communications’s purpose is to create a more well-known and accessible student government by practicing active communication with the UC San Diego student body, fostering connections within the community, and increasing student engagement and participation in the advocacy efforts of the Associated Students. The office has four departments: Marketing Communications, Data Analytics, Internal Association Communications, and Strategic Communications. Each of these departments is supervised by a senior officer who oversees its staff members’ daily and weekly operations, while also working as a team within their departments and with the others, to develop content and strategies to fulfill the purpose of the office through innovative and creative practices. Additionally, everyone is trained and provided with resources to increase their professional growth, along with their personnel growth through interacting with everyone in the office and the greater A.S community.

Position Description

As such, it is then under the supervision of the Executive Internal Operations Officer to guarantee that all staff members are fulfilling and understand their duties, but primarily to ensure that the senior officers provide timely and effective reports to the Chief Communications Officer. Moreover, they are meant to support the senior officers with any projects and facilitate cross-departmental collaboration, which the Office of Communications will do on an active basis to fulfill its mission. The Executive Internal Operations Officer will have to take on many important tasks and essentially serve as the second in command of the Office of Communications. They will work closely with the Chief Communications Officer and assist them on a grand scale for events and initiatives. This role is vital to the internal operations of the office and its departments.

Key Information

Pay rate: $80 per week

Job Location: In-Person (UCSD Main Campus) and Off-Site work

Responsibilities: 

  • Support and oversee the senior officers of each Office of Communication’s department while also collaborating with senior officers to ensure consistent messaging across all internal channels.

  • Assist the Chief Communications Officer with event planning, meeting facilitation, day of event coordination, hiring and training, and any general administrative tasks that may arise.

  • Create office reports and agendas for weekly staff meetings.

  • Develop internal communication policies to distribute updates adequately and timely to all staff members.

  • Create team bonding initiatives to foster staff engagement and a positive atmosphere.

  • Conduct surveys and gather feedback to assess the effectiveness of internal communications and identify areas for improvement.

  • Be innovative in ways to create and develop more effective communication practices.

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Other event and administrative duties as needed.

Required Qualification:

  • Must be a full-time registered UC San Diego Undergraduate Student and available to work on campus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated and take the initiative to complete tasks with minimal direction

  • Well-organized, resourceful, and able to multi-task in high-pressure situations

  • Have relevant experience in administrative management and/or team communications

  • Possess strong leadership qualities and listening skills to work in a diverse team
