The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services, and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service in order to build and strengthen our community.
There are currently two First Year Senators in the ASUCSD. The First Year Senator position is a voting member of the ASUCSD Senate. The purpose of the First-Year Senator is to represent the interests and concerns of all first-year students on the Senate floor. The First Year Senators strive to increase awareness of important issues in the first-year class through at least two projects throughout the school year. This includes, but is not limited to, food giveaways, conducting surveys, working on improving campus-wide events and services (Welcome Week, Academic help, On-Campus Housing life), etc. Each First Year Senator is required to attend all ASUCSD Senate Meetings every Wednesday afternoon/evening and attend the first-year fellowship on Tuesday from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM.
Responsibilities:

Represent the interests and concerns of first-year students

Attend all Associated Students Senate Meetings on [Wednesday from 6:00 pm to end]

Attend all Associated Students Joint Meetings [Wednesdays]

Sit on one Associated Students Internal Committee [Wednesdays]

Attend First-Year Fellowship meetings [Tuesday]

Build and maintain relationships and student representatives of the First Year Student Body

Increase awareness of important issues in their constituency

Complete a minimum of two projects during their term that benefit the first-year student body

Complete tasks as assigned to Senators by the Executive Vice President and other tasks assigned by the Fellowship Directors
Two First Year Senators will be appointed for the 2024-2025 academic year. You will be contacted for an interview for the position once the application period has closed.
