Description of the Office of the Vice-President of External Affairs:

The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services, and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service to build and strengthen our community. 

The Office of the Vice President of External Affairs amplifies the voices of UC San Diego Students by providing access to statewide and federal opportunities for civic engagement and community involvement. The Office collaborates with inclusive, diverse on-campus and off-campus partners to inspire emerging student leaders and changemakers, including UC-wide advocacy through the UCSA.

Purpose of the Housing Affairs Commission

The Housing Affairs Commission will work on advocacy projects and developments regarding affordable, accessible, and quality housing. The commission will work with the offices within the Associated Students, AS Office of Food and Housing Resources, AS Office of External Affairs, and Triton Lobby Corps to speak with administrators and legislators to develop policies improving housing for current, future, and past students. The commission shall also educate the campus community regarding issues affecting student housing. The commission will coordinate programming with campus partners, the AS Office of Food and Housing Resources, Basic Needs Hub, and any other body on housing resources

Pay rate: $60/week

Job Description: 

  • Serve as the Executive Director of the Housing Affairs Commission 

  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and all HOMES coalition meetings

  • Build relationships with campus and community patterns that fight towards housing solutions, which benefit UC San Diego students

  • Develop an advocacy plan to achieve a goal throughout the academic year

  • Work with AS Offices to unify housing advocacy across the association, especially the AS Office of Food and Housing Resources, AS Office of Local Affairs, and Triton Lobby Corp 

  • Fulfill any other responsibility assigned by the VP External and Internal Director 

Job Location: 

In-Person (UCSD Main Campus)

Qualifications: 

  • Have experience organizing housing efforts or similar experiences

  • Active communication and organizational skills 

  • Team leadership experience 

  • Have advanced fluency in current Housing Policies at the state and local

Hours per week: 15 - 20

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • You must plan to be a full-time registered student at UC San Diego for the 2024 - 2025 academic year and be available on campus.
