Description of the Office of the Vice-President of External Affairs:
The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services, and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service to build and strengthen our community.
The Office of the Vice President of External Affairs amplifies the voices of UC San Diego Students by providing access to statewide and federal opportunities for civic engagement and community involvement. The Office collaborates with inclusive, diverse on-campus and off-campus partners to inspire emerging student leaders and changemakers, including UC-wide advocacy through the UCSA.
About the University of California Student Association (UCSA):
The University of California Student Association is the official voice of students from across the UC's system of campuses. It is our mission to advocate on behalf of current and future students for the accessibility, affordability, and quality of the University of California system. There are 5 campaign areas that we work on & prioritize every year based on student input.

We are hiring for four coordinators: Racial Justice Now (RJN) , Students Enacting Environmental Defence (SEED), Fund the UC, and A Campaign for Quality in Resources and Education (ACQUIRE). The campaign coordinator position is responsible for implementing the campaign goal for the 2024-25 year on UC San Diego campus.
Job Description:

Communicating with UCSA SEED campaign Vice Chair regularly & accomplishing all assigned campaign tasks. (Responsibilities and times may vary)

Keep track of commitments made during meetings and follow up with folks who made commitments.

Maintain regular contact with the External Organizing Director and have open communication regarding boundaries and responsibilities.

Shall work with campus organizations to develop coalitions and solidarity efforts with campus organizations

Attend bi-weekly all staff meetings with the other staff members within the Office of External Affairs.

Fulfill additional UCSA campaign work: may include, but is not limited to attending rally planning, organizing travel arrangements, writing Op-eds, tabling, facilitating meetings, organizing teach-ins/webinars/phone-banking events, stepping in for campaign coordinators, meeting with different on-campus and off-campus organizations, and other organizing work

Shall take on additional responsibilities as requested by the Vice President of External Affairs and External Organizing Director
Job Location: In-Person (UCSD Main Campus)
Qualifications for all Goals:

Community Organizing and Advocacy Experience
-
Community Engagement Experience
-
Experience in coalition building and long-range planning
RJN Qualifications:
-
Knowledge of CA Prop 6 and Prop 36

Interest in addressing Racial Inequities
SEED Qualifications:
-
Have environmental justice advocacy experience, preferred but not required

A knowledge of and compassion for environmental justice
-
Have a basic understanding of the concerns and needs of Indigenous students on campus
Fund the UC Qualifications:
-
Having an understanding of or experience with the financial aid system
-
Understand how legislation at the state and federal levels impacts financial aid for UC students
ACQUIRE Qualifications:
-
Previous experience in Basic Needs advocacy to various forms of support outside of academics, preferred, but not required
Hours per week: 5-10 hours/week
